Open Window
We’ve all been on our best behaviors at work. There’s been rumors about a scheduled lay-off during the beginning of May, then another one in June…but nothing ever happened. Until now..
July 2nd I was laid-off. I’m still in shock. I think it’ll fully hit me come Monday morning when I don’t have to wake up at 6 am to get ready for the work, take the bus to the BART station and building security does not let me in…
Ya still in shock.
I worked for an international law firm. Our SF office was the smallest in the nation (the Palo Alto office is bigger). There’s 4 people in my word processing department. The reason for the lay-off, not enough work and I’m the newest one in the department. I knew my days were numbered but didn’t realize that day was yesterday.
I’ve slowly but surely lined up my ducks…
-filed for unemployment
-called some creditors
-updated resume
-contacted recruiters
-emailed resume to possible opportunities from the web
Of course still lots to do but with the holiday weekend it’s hard to get a hold of people.
I tell myself to keep my spirits up. Coworkers have been very supportive and let me know that if I need anything to let them know. Well yes I do…I need a job.
I do believe that when a door closes…a window of opportunity opens. But I also know that I won’t see that open window if I just sit on my ass. I gotta find that window!
So I’m calling on all online communities and requesting some good vibes sent my way and to anyone else who has lost their jobs due to the economy especially families with children to feed. =)
